Hello guys!

I´m from Brazil and I´m going to CT next month to stay 10 weeks studying english and I have the intention to have my road bike with me and train as much as possible.

I´d love if some of you could give me some advise about routes I could do leaving Sea Point (where I´ll stay), specially hilly ones. As I´d probably have to ride alone, I´m specially concerned about safety ( avoiding heavy traffic roads).

I´d appreciate to have some advise about good bike shops in the area as well.

I´ve been to CT 2 years ago, but not with my bike and I think it´s a wonderful place to ride. Any advise would be very helpfull!

Thanks!!

From sea point the best route for an easy 2 hour ride would be Togo down the cost to chap and peak, there is a fair amount of climbing and the traffic is not that bad in the morning.

I´ve added you both on strava. I´ve done this route buy bus and it´s really nice. Can you suggest a route to the table mountain base or signal hill?thanks a lot!

Action Cycles in the City Centre is right on the cycle path and is just a few minutes riding from where you'll stay. Their mechanics are super if you need work done to your bike. Chris Willems Cycles in Somerset Rd Green Point is even closer. They have a nice selection of stock and are often the cheapest shop in town.

From Sea point you can ride Southwards along the Atlantic coast, right down to Cape Point and back, a ride of a little over 100km. There are several decent climbs, but no real mountains.

For shorter rides from Sea Point, you can ride up to Kloof Nek, Signal Hill and to the lower Cable Car station. Several routes are possible, but all are busy except very early in the morning. This will give you a real serious hill workout.

When you arrive in Cape Town, post here on the Hub and before you know it, you'll have a few guys taking you out to show you the routes. From springtime onwards, the Atlantic route is packed with early morning cyclists training, so safety is not an issue. Having said that, riding with a smallish group is always better.

...if you're here for 10 weeks don't limit yourself to that side of Cape Town, there's some amazing roads to cycle further North towards Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Franschoek and i'm pretty sure a bunch of guys here wouldn't mind you joining them, myself included.

thanks all you guys.I've pencilled all the suggestions. I've been the routes near sea point by bus and they're really great, my concern was about safety...I'm recovering from a very bad crash and I'm over concerned about safety!

I think I'll have 2 hours to ride everyday (afternoon) so I'll have to ride near Sea Point but I'll have free weekends so would be amazing to ride with you to stellembosh etc...
