I would rather make cadence the constant, its a tad easier to control I reckon

I'm assuming constant cadence of 90 rpm. Imagine that up a 12% grade...

give me a call up tomorrow and i can explain this to you in more detail, power is a result of how hard you push on the pedals and in your case the change in grade will not effect power at all as your trainer is not resistance controlled.

like i said give me a call up tomorrow and ill do my best to run you through this, even loan you a PowerBeam Pro for a week if you would like so you can understand the difference.

I don't understand why you are trying to work this out. If you start going up a hill, generally your speed will decrease and your watts will remain constant. Your watts might increase, but only as much as you want them to (Ie if you push harder). In a long endurance race (eg iron man), you ideally would want to keep a consistent wattage the whole way through, so you would ride uphill slower.

To know the same wattage for an increase in gradient seems like the least useful measure to know, and as some have said, I think you are over thinking it.

Unless there is something I am not understanding.
