Cool stuff but the standout line there is "the police were not particularly knowledgable about the procedure for reclaiming stolen property"

That is hysterical...

Have to disagree - something that is hysterical is usually something that is funny and unusual

A bike was found in a similar way at the mainland CC. The thief went to the police to give an affidavit to say it's his bike.

Don't know what happened further

Yes it was my santa cruz nomad. They guy from cc called me after finding out it was my bike. He paid 4k for a 60k bike so its a bit hard to claim ignorance BUT that being said he did give it back to me and is 4k in the hole. The first thing you should do when your bike is stolen is send a email to cc head office so they can send it out to their branches.

There aren't any syndicates guys. These bikes get bought by fellow riders from these thieves or sold to a cc for a quick buck. I went through the whole process so now i know.

And just a little tip. Whenever you store your bike.. Whether in your house or garage or wherever it may be. Remove the front axle or skewer. It will make it much harder to get away with the bike without it
