Just thinking that if the OP has changed from CB to Shimano he would have needed new cleats so this is unlikely?

Hope he is using the right cleats....just asking of course

Hi Guys, thanks for all the replies.

Yes the cleats are new and are Shimano cleats.

I'm going to try a different set of Shimano pedals with the same cleats as well as a different shoe with the pedals and see if I can eliminate the problem.

Will also try and place a shim under the cleat to see if that helps.

Appreciate all the advice

Thanks for all the advice.

I tried my old spinning shoes on the bike this morning (mtb with shimano cleats) and no play at all.

Then swapped the cleats with the cleats with the ones on my regular MTB shoes to check the cleats and lots of play.

Then tried a metal shim under the cleats as suggested - still some play.

So it seems it is actually the wear on my shoes

Such a bummer as they are still in good condition...

Just wonder if a pedal change would help...
