That is whats burns my arse most about copper/lead/manhole cover etc theft.

The benefit to the thief is minimal - the disruption and cost to the end user is huge.

If you have nothing, minimal is a lot (not taking the side of the criminals, just saying).

Agreed, but the situation certainly is not getting any better. There are a lot of very hard working informal sector recyclers, doing good work, that should be more encouraged and facilitated.

We reported a leaking water pipe outside our house twice now. It's been over 4 weeks and no one has responded.

Money is leaking out everywhere but yet they don't have money to maintain infrastructure.

Someone needs to get of their @ss and start doing their job. At this stage they are just doing crisis management by fixing serious problems and they aren't even doing that very well.

As much as i think the situation is a complete stuff up. I am not 100% on the ball either on my actions. I have seen reasonable service from the Joburg Water guys

We have had a water leak outside our house for quite some time, which we did not report cos we were stoopid as well. Even though the meter reader dude could see there was a water leak himself when he came round monthly (i saw him in the road 5 am on a monthly basis so i know he was there). Eventually i got hold of a number from my boet and reported the leak. Within 2 weeks the problem was fixed. Will try find the number, but i think it was the standard number available on their web site.

Its not theft related issues agreed, but some areas have worked.

You must go check out Hector Norris Park, the looters are slowly stealing all the mentis grating used to cover the drainage on the track, we now have resorted to replacing it with concrete covers, expensive as it come out of private citizens pockets, not the City of Joburg's coffers. Also stealing sign posting, pavillion seating, if it is not welded down then it is fair fame.

Makes me crazy
