So here is the deal

I have a polar rs800' works only with certain belts

Weekdays i do cadence cycling using cycleops stuff, polar belts dont work on those

Have a tacx genius trainer, 531 belt from polar supsed to work here

So why can one not get one belt that works with everything?

Why do you want to use your polar at cadence? They give you a hrm belt, & if you want the files to upload else where I'm sure you can download it from your profile after they've uploaded

No such thing. Polar uses Low Power Bluetooth (4.0) and their older stuff. Garmin have ANT+, and others each have their own standard that they're trying to push as the "next best" thing.

Low Power Bluetooth seems to be the one that the majority of providers are going with, but no one belt will work with everything.

Nice to have a log of your training all in one ace like the polar software

Polar has always done their own thing and that's why they are a pale shadow of the the force that they once were in bike computers.

If you want to be relatively future-proof, you want an ANT+ belt, and if you would like to be compatible with a few other things (like your iPhone), you also get belts that are dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart.

My Garmin Premium HR belt is a good example of that.

As suggested previously, download it from your Cadence profile, then re-import that's what I use to do. Alternatively use both Cadences HRM & your Polar HRM simultaneously.

  • 2 weeks later...

Unfortunately, it is against design logic to have one standard. Imagine if it was so , then the cheaper far east products would be the only ones that sell anything.

MAybe

But wrt to polar...just for example its very irritating when the RS800 belt does not work with the CS400 and vice versa but the V800 belt works with the CS400 but also does not work with the RS800... before the V800 i hd to have 2 different belts one ofr cycling (CS400) and one for running (RS800)...made for interesting times in tri's...
