Crown. Very good service and price.

Only 35 years.. ! Got my first bike - Achilles (rod brakes) - from the dad in 1973 & a Peugeot Le Mans about 10 years later..... And I'm still going back regularly. On the Bridge issue, prices are good especially when they have sales but I can't handle the cluttered shop. You can't even browse with out being asked to give way for someone every few minutes.

I'm still a laaitie, lol. My second bike from Crown was also a Peugot Le Mans with the brake lever extension, was hot stuff back then. This brings back some good memories, the freedom to cross the tracks, see new places & back then there was no lycra, sti's, gu, etc.. A trip over Chappies was a whole day event with the entire neighbourhood gang.

Agree that Bridge is too crowded and very little space. Also get the feeling they just want to get a quick sale and get you out of there asap.

their product selection isint amazing, but mark is a properly good mechanic and hilton and gary are always friendly and willing to help wherever they can. i walk into the shop and they all know my bike, whats wrong with it and whats gonna go wrong with it next.

the other day i called them and asked to speak to mark for some advice and as the phone was being passed around i could have sworn i heard "its (my name) with the GT force".

now that's service.

Crown......I grew up in the area and found them to be second choice.Never had what you were looking for.

Did not go there when they were around the corner let alone travel across town

Perhaps they have improved lately

Maybe that's because you live in Gauteng now and couldn't see over the counter when you were a laaitie!

I too can recommend Crown for their great service! Mark always works on my bikes, awesome mechanic.

Maybe elaborate a bit. Look at the guys thread about Spez in Durbs. He takes great time in telling his side. If you back your story up with facts and events, your opinion will be taken seriously, otherwise the guys will just write it off as a rant.

yeah and the amountof prima donna's that walk into Bridge and demand instant attention because their Spec cost over R50K is a joke. Johny come lately's with no patience and unrealistic expectations

Seems like I'm in the minority here, but I don't think Bridge is that bad.

I wouldn't go there to buy a new bike, but I've bought a bunch of parts and clothing from them at decent prices. The consignment store across the road that they run often has awesome deals on a variety of components, specifically Specialized stuff.

I've also bought some stuff there which I realised afterwards was incorrect (my mistake) and when I brought the stuff back a few weeks later they gave me a cash refund, no questions asked.

The shop assistants (Dimitri and the guy who works at the store across the road) are friendly, happy to have a chat and give an opinion/advice.

The main store is cramped and stuff is badly organised, but I've found that if you ask for something they'll make a real effort to find it for you.

Anyways, just my personal experience. YMMV.

I also had no issues with Bridge, only had good service from them. I stay in Lansdowne and if they were closer I would have used them more often, now I use Revolution Cycles, been getting great service from them.

I do agree that there shop is too small for all the bikes they put in there, but doesn't bother me. I know of a store with all the space and well laid out floor but there bike range don't interest me. Then I prefer the hustle and bustle of Bridge

Different strokes for different folks.

No shop will be able to keep everybody happy all of the time.

We're spoilt for choice at the moment, so no reason to stick with a store if you're unhappy with them.

Move on and find one that you're comfortable with ...
