the same as any other app. It uses the same barometric altimeter that based on your device hardware, not the software.

 

*edit* One really cool feature was the integration with Google Earth - you can replay your ride and see your movements in G.E. - quite cool.

 

p.s. I have a heart rate monitor for Samsung S3 / S4 / S5 if you're interested....

When an activity is viewed on the website there is an option to refine the elevation gain, seems to sort it out. All automatic.

Reasonably accurate, I use it when riding in our nature reserve, again it depends on the device used. I use an iPhone, the ride starts with a substantial 3 km climb with many steep climbs and descents in between start and finish. I end at the same spot and always have a variance of about 15 to 20m, thats after climbing about 600m, I think thats pretty good.
