FTP test on PowerBeam Pro

I need to retest this week. Is it possible to set a flat, virtual course in the virtual trainer software? Or should I download something else?

I would just ride a flat virtual download... from Iceland, but my first test was on a completely flat virtual course (on a different trainer altogether) . No variations to gradient in the slightest.

I do mine in the power interval training section. Much easier

Hi Jaco

Can you expand on how you do this, now that i got a power beam i'm keen to establish FTP accurately.

What Jaco said....you cannot do it on a course

Do it workouts

But how...?

What about if you create a route that climbs for +/- 20minutes and then ride that route like a TT?

No...the route will affect the power numbers. You want it absolutely clinical for a lack of a better term

So here is what I do....warmup in freeride mode for about 5 minutes...activate dem muscles before doing test...you dont want a cold start.

Then when you finished you go back into freeride mode and start pedaling for about 30 sec at 250 watts and after the minute go up or down in power maintaining cadence of 90rpm. Remember you will have to go for 20 minutes. If I am feeling strong, I up by 10 watt increments if I am feeling weak go down in 10 watt. After 20 minutes, stop the ride. Then upload to cloud ie strava. Go into strava and get the avg power for the 20 minutes after the 1 minute where you adjusted in the beginning. Take that 20 minute avg number and do the following calc...95% of that 20 minute avg...that is you FTP

So its just like doing the "lactate" threshold test for HR training (the test protocol)?

i think if you use the interval button (if u have a the joule computer) for the actual 20 min TT then the cycleops virtual training diary will tell you what the avg power was during the 20 minute interval 8lap as they call it?

I just use strava to get the avg and then multiply by 0.95

Also I rather do a MMP test to get training zones...takes less out of me and quick to do

MMP test...?

Is that when you increase your effort every minute untill you cannot maintain the the new effort for a minute i.e. you start at say 200 W and increase by equal amount (20W for example) every minute untill u cannot maintain for the full minute?

No...its max minute power test....3 minutes balls to the wall...and then get the top avg 1 minute power within the 3 minutes...just used to calculate training zones. I like it because its quicker and doesnt require the 20 minute of suffering. But that is just me.
