I am a weekend warrior but have already entered the 100km- great what have I done

I did the 100 for the first time last year, I was also a weekend warrior then and had only been cycling for about a year, I managed to finish, I really suffered after bartletts when I broke my rear derailleur and had to shorten my chain and make it single speed for the remainder of the race, then picked up a puncture just before the ark! I crossed the line in about 8 and a half hours.... extreme sufferfest! but the feeling after crossing the finish line made it worth it! That's why I'm doing it again

- As stretch said - I lost interest AGES ago ... I know they try to spice it up but just not enough fun in it for the fun-tax needed IMO.

I think it was always about an endurance test as opposed to being fun on the singletrack....once accomplished successfully then it no longer becomes a challenge. I do believe it as an event that everyone must do at least 2 or 3 times. A bit like Sani2c i guess

shaun if you havent done it before it is a great accomplishment - so dont be deterred by us ... its a good day out ... but you will be knackered when you are done climbing sunshine hill

Thanks Nigel. I'll just make use of all of the waterpoints and pack my climbing legs hopefully!

walking up bartmans hill (i think its called that) is not allowed

A bit of a steep one I take it?

On any other day it would be nothing.... After the distance you've covered before it on D day its a gargantuan!

I rode it about 2 weeks before H2H last year in a training ride and thought "what the hell is everyone on about, this is a piece of pi$$" oh how wrong I was......

This will be my 4th year of the 100km and im still keen as nuts! Apparently they going back to the same route as 2011 (my 1st one) which had more kms at worlds view and more single track near the end :)

Just take it easy for the first 65km and keep some in the tank for the last 40 with Bartletts and the Ark :)

Ive done it in the sun and the wet and I preferred the wet to be honest! Gona be an awesome day out and good luck to everyone doing it!

Actually called Bartletts, and no, it's not so steep, just comes late in the race when you are getting tired. Walking is quite allowed. The climb afterwards up past the horse paddocks is worse. Crampers paradise.

Forgot about that hill..it's cramps indeed....ok..anyone who can ride that hill up to the electricity substation near the end after key ridge deserves a noddy badge then!

That is the WORST hill EVER! .... from the Ark up to the Substation ... you cant even enjoy that bit of singletrack down from Bartletts across the river at the ark as you can just see that monster staring you in the face .... FUN DIAL = ZERO at that point ....

I think it is that hill alone that makes me hate that race! hahahaha

So this sounds like a wonderful race...

dude the hills everyones moaning about are actually only 2 hills but they come right at the end when you are done and just want a beer ... so they are a slog! ... as Dyls said on any other day they are fine ... but after 60km they are not fun! ....

But then again its called Hill 2 Hill (2 hill 2 hill 2 hill 2 hill 2 hill) for a reason.

hahhahaha

the best piece of advice i can offer is don't get sucked into the mad dash at the begining ...this race/ride is all about pacing yourself and having fun with mates or fellow riders. Stop at every waterpoint and get off your bike and give the legs and Butt a rest. ... you at the Start line

Entered for the 100.

Have done the 45 a few times, so know what the run in is like, but agreed slapping 60km's on before you get there is gonna hurt a lot.

The mission is simple, enjoy the day out (if possible) and look at it as an adventure, not a race.

I've entered the 100km (first time) so have no idea what to expect! Any words of wisdom from those who have done it?

Just remember it's all about endurance and not speed :)
