Interferenace between Bike computer & Polar HRM

Throughout winter i trained purely with my HRM as i felt i didnt need a computer on my bike for training purposes. Now with the races starting up for the summer season I bought a Wireless bike computer as well.

However when I tested them out together on my bike over the weekend I found that there seems to be interference with my HRM where at times it was showing 119% etc. My computer had no problems and the data all seemed legitimate.

So is there anyway around this? Will using the Polar H7 coded transmitter fix this problem or will i still get interference with the HRM.

First go and have a look if you did the rides with a gillet on. Two reasons....static and / or the flapping of the plastic gillet interfere with Polar HR strap. Then secondly, have a look if your max HR is set-up correctly. Good luck

I have been using the HRM for a few months now with no problems at all. The spikes in the HRM are at random and have only started since i got the new wireless computer.

It could be coincidence, what kind of polar strap is it?

If its one of those with the textile / cloth sensing strip then that could be the problem... full of pooh they are.

Have you tried it without the computer?

Your battery could be on the way out. I've heard, with Polar especially, that this sometimes registers spikes. Otherwise, as above, the static is a problem mostly in winter.

When I used a Polar in winter, I used to ride with a 100% cotton T-shirt under my cycle top, partly to keep warmer, but also to get a more accurate HR reading.

Thanks for the replies guys... hopefully it is just coincidence.

Next ride out i will take the computer off my bike and see what happens.

Back to square 1... Cycled on my IDT the other night and HRM worked perfectly with no spikes etc. The next morning on my commute to work i left both the HRM and computer on my bike but did not wear the HRM strap so that i could see if my watch was picking up the signal from the speed sensor but nothing happened.

Then my ride yesterday afternoon took the computer off my bike but left the sensor on the fork and alas it started to spike again... I did however find that it only did this when i was riding down on teh drops, as soon as i sat up then it returned to normal. So it seems the speed sensor is disturbing the signal from my HRM sensor.

Back to the original question, will the Polar coded transmitter fix this or will the signal it produces also be disturbed by the speed sensor of my computer?
