The only place I have taken my Canon DSLR on the bike in my backpack, was once when I rode up the Swartberg Pass and wanted to take better pictures than I could with my little Canon S100 compact. The big camera and lenses made me sweat so much up the pass that I never tried it again. The S100 did stellar duty for many years until it fell in the drink when paddling. Now I use a Canon waterproof shockproof compact (D30) on the bike and the boat. It isn't as good as the S100 or the SLR, but it survives the rough and tumble.

Not sure... I use a phone to phone, and a camera to take photos! The camera I have is 16mp. See here: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26412/COOLPIX-AW110.html

The best is that I don't have to worry about rain, mud or dust. It's well-sealed, and if it gets muddy, I just wash it off.

I see Fujifilm has something similar

Must say I've always been a fan of Nikon though.
