BoerBiker Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Okay so here's another dumb question for all you clever okes. Carbs....how much do you need during a race, can you have too much, how much of it needs to be solids vs fluids? Here's where I'm coming from. USN's Vooma is a nice little gel that taste great, but it goes for around R15 for one serving of 80grams and contains 26grams of carbs and 0.4 grams of Protein (I'm cheap). On the other hand there's something like Supplements SA's Massive Muscle contains 59 grams of Carbs and 48 grams of Protein (this product doesn't make you feel bloated, I've used it in the gym)...at a cost of R9.00 per serving (Yayyy). My question is this, can you use something like this on race day (pre and during)? Would it have add benefit during longer races maybe like the Trans Baviaans to quickly mix with water in a bag, bite it open and drink when you need to eat? I always feel that I struggle to eat solids during a race, when I chew on a Bar-One I probably look like those dogs in the Youtube clips with Peanut Butter in their mouths. Shot
BoerBiker Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 Aish it looks like I'm buying the Vooma ;-)
Fabian46 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Aish it looks like I'm buying the Vooma ;-) Also, look at the USN CytoGel HP. Works very well for me. Got the cramp block stuff and high caffeine and all that good goooey stuff.
Cyclewizz Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The Vooma and the Massive Muscle are 2 completely different products. The Massive Muscle is a meal replacement and the Vooma is for a boost. I'm pretty sure that you can consume MM on long ride as a solid food replacement. I've read somewhere that somebody said that it's a good idea to have some protein while riding as it starts the muscle repair.
