Hi Guys,

Recently bought a bike that came with Sram XX1, loving it, but a few weeks ago I did a ride that had many a steep hill and really struggled without the good old granny gear. I have a spare XO dual crank, front shifter and front derailleur lying around at home though.

So the big question is, would it be possible to run the Sram XX1 on the rear as well as the dual crank upfront without doing any damage?

I would swop between the cranks depending on the riding / event i will be doing.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Go back to 2x10. I doubt the chain will work on 2x setup.

You won't be able to keep XX1 and run a X0 dual crank. Two Three options:

  1. Go 2x10
  2. HTFU
  3. Go gettho...

Anne Caroline may be getting older, but she's no granny. She's found a solid compromise for racing stages, but easy spinning during liasons. No chainguide needed with the XX1 big ring during timed descents and a little "indexed" shifting into the small ring for taking it easy on the climbs. We say "indexed" because she'll just hop off the bike and use her index finger to lift the chain to the small ring. Credit: Dave Trumpore

Just thinking about this, I doubt the rd would be able to handle this for the full range of the cassette with the extra amount of chain thrown at it by shifting onto a small chain ring.

I was going to mention point 2 as well ;)

The new XTR is 2x11, but buying a whole groupset will sting a bit... the cup of cement that Iwan prescribed will be way cheaper.
