He wants to get into the top 10 and maybe improve on his 9th standing in 2014

Go, Ryder

That, but also the maglia azzurra has to be another target as well.

AC was off the back (probably a mechanical). His team is pacing him back to Aru who had about 45 seconds on him at one stage - Katusha had started hitting it pretty hard all of a sudden. He's only about 20 seconds behind now, but the team has had to dig deep to get him back in contention.

52 km remaining from 174 km.

Almost into the final 50 km of action and we've already got fireworks as Aru and all of Contador's main rivals are clear with the Spaniard dropped on the last descent. We think that he had a mechanical. And Contador is losing more time. The gap between Aru and Contador's group is at nearly 30 seconds now.

And Contador is losing teammates fast. He's down to just Rogers and one other rider. He needs to close that gap before the climb proper begins.

And Astana start to work with Katusha. Hesjedal just has 40 seconds of an advantage left.

Contador has pegged the Aru group back to around 20 seconds but that's still 20 seconds too many.

And Hesjedal is caught 3km from the start of the Mortirolo. Astana and Katusha have Contador back at 30 seconds. The Spaniard had a puncture, that's why there has been a gap

Watching those Astana riders all hammering on the front like that, looks like a whole team of Tony Martin clones. They're going so fast that the front guys in the wind are literally riding their Katusha helpers off their wheels.

He's barely making a dent on the Astana guys TBH. Look at that time gap - with all that effort he's pulled back about 3 seconds.
