I am having squeaking, jamming etc. with my Formula 1 brakes. Is there a post or link on how to maintain, setup these brakes. Getting really annoyed with them, the bike has only 700km on it and I have owned the camber since brand new.

Thanks

Google and youtube are your friends - use them.

Seriously!!

As above replace them with Shimanoes and I will take your formulas to the recycle bin for you

How long have you had the bike?

Brakes need to be serviced once in a while - when last were the brakes bled - what condition are the pads in - are the pistons moving freely?

Upgraded mine to XTs after about two months. Didn't like the feel, two bleeds needed, never felt as sharp as XTs on previous bike. Added Icetech rotors too, could stand those squealing, wobbly, noisy rotors either.

I have had the camber from brand new which is 4 months ago. I have put 700km. Its my second set of brake pads on the rear brake, first on front. No I start MTB about 5 months ago coming from Motorbikes.

Love my R1 barakes, true 1 finger  braking. Give lance at the epic bike shop a call. I know he is in cape town, but he knows what he is doing and will sort you out with help.

Formulas are notorious for there very small pad clearances and issues with retracting the pads. If your Spez came with it I would think it is a 2013 model. In 2014 they made some changed to improve the pad retraction. What I do with mine at times is to remove the wheel and make the pads travel a bit further then push them back a few times. Be careful not to push them out too far as you run the risk of pushing oil past the piston. Tricky affair that sometimes works.

Otherwise get yourself a set of XT/SLX brakes. There is a reason Spez stopped using those Formulas in favour of Shimano.

Best idea ever..stop struggling and get Shimano..XT or SLX, they are both fantastic.

There are some issues on the first bath of 2014 OEM C1 brakes which came on the Specialized Camber and Stumpy frames. Best is to get it into your LBS, if they should know the drill. If not, tell them to give us a buzz and we'll walk them through it and get you sorted ;)
