Well done to Froome after last years disaster on cobbles for showing he can ride them.

Last yr he didn't even make it onto the cobbles and crashed out before the cobbles started that day

BUT yes he rode very well today. All of GC guys did what they needed to do today.

I got my wish: the 4 main contenders plus van Garderen (shall we say 'Fab 5' now?) came through unscathed. They all rode out of their skins, incl. Nairo. For him that must have been some of the hardest, scariest riding he's had to face. And he got the job done - very proud of the lad. And Nibs! Well he really is a natural on the cobbles. He should seriously think of having a proper go at Flanders and PR one year. At some stages Sagan, Vanmarke & co. were struggling to stay on his wheel.

My boy!!

Excellent stage today.

I don't want to know the stories my neighbours are conducting about who Tony is or what he did to me!

Today took me back to why I'm such a fan of the Classics. I ducked home early to watch the last 50km. Was literally perched on the edge of the coffee table in front of the tv, unable to take my eyes away for a second. The stress that the cobbles bring - even for us fans - the dust, the tiny lanes, the fighting for position, elbows and shoulders everywhere, the hardmen on the front and in charge. This is racing. Awesome TDF so far. Bring on stage 5!

Bling made it.

The 25-year-old finished 16:53 down on Tony Martin, but without any doubts of completion. It’s really hard to say (how hard it was),” Matthews said. “I think my ribs jumped in and out of place a few times there. It was a real big struggle to get through today but I was able to have Pieter Weening around me, keeping me motivated through the stage and also through the cobbles. It was nice to have him supporting me and helping me get through the stage."
