2015 Enduro Calendar

Hi Guys,

I've got serious FOMO when it comes to Enduro events, especially seeing as though there are so few in Gauteng. I thought it would be nice if we can create a sticky with Events/Calendar with a few details or links to each event. This will create more awareness of what's coming up and will mean more numbers at such events.

Maybe event, date, province, link to site?

Nige...i am on a mission to learn some more skill this next year...I would say I'm okay..but need tho learn how to jump etc...is there a transition enduro...or is enduro the transition? And do you need full face knee guards etc

Posted

#ENDURO ... is the transition to proper MTB ... hahaha

Look ... in all honesty the Enduros we hold are good for your skills on normal trails as you are riding existing XC and Marathon Trails faster than you normally would. ....BUT the trails dont often have jumps etc in them - these we try and keep for the DH tracks (even the small jumps)

But the biggest thing is to actually come and race DH ... the DH tracks ALWAYS have B and C lines around jumps etc, and can actually be ridden on a 29er hardtail with your seat up ... So if you bring your normal Trail bike you would be fine and you would have fun.

SO the following applies. ....

#ENDURO

- No limitations on gear ... Fullface or normal XC helmet allowed, Longsleeve shirt and Knee guards are a good idea but not essential.

- Bike ... Any ...

- Go Pros etc ... just need to check as KZNMTB regulations say that you cant use them for DH in Races, but am not sure about Enduro Rules.

- Tracks ... Normal XC trails with a bit of spice thrown in ... some steep sections where having your seat down will make it WAY more comfy. Some roots and rocks for good measure. NO jumps as such but if there are (like Giba) they are tabletops ... Some Drops, but again there are always lines around ...

----

KZN DH Events ...

Gear - Full Face, long sleeve shirt or Elbow guards with a short sleeve, long pants or shorts with Knee guards, are compulsory ....

Bike - Any! - you will be surprised but a large amount of our DH guys who race only have trail bikes ...

Trails - Descending trail that is generally steepish with some rocky sections. Drops and jumps are features, but ALL will have alternative lines around them so that anyone can get down the track in one piece. (remember that we cater for lighties and old farts too and they often are not able to jump the stuff that the Elites can so need a decent trail around to also be competitive in their categories and also have fun ....

So if you want to learn skill ....

Come and race Enduro and DH on the same bike!!! ...

Each of our rounds will have the DH and Enduro on consecutive days, and the venues are also conducive to staying over at the venue overnight - so people can make a weekend of it ...

Will let you all know the full details in due course

You need to come to one of Mr Hicks' introductory days (If he ever decides to arrange one again....) He'll give you sound advice as to what works and what doesn't.

Full face knee guards might get a bit uncomfortable, but knee guards (and elbow guards) won't hurt and a full face might save that pearly white grin if you are planning to exceed your talent quota. :D

Gauteng is a bit behind KZN and WP, however.

There is a team of us working on trails at Hakahana trails to have race ready before year end.

I have also been hearing rumour of two other venues being developed for #Enduro in and around Pretoria.

If these other two places materialize, with allot of hard work we might even see a Gauteng series in 2015. (MIGHT!) :whistling:

I hold one of those intro days and im getting rashed about it for the rest of my life ... hahahaha

Yes I will do another one .... at some stage ... just have to find time between organising the 2015 season, and riding, and training the new ladies, and work, and ... and

But maybe sometime in Dec ...

Have you forgotten how the number swelled at the following DH events?!? You obviously did something right.

I speak from experience here, I was too brown scared to do DH until I attended that intro day (As were a few others...) Someone convinced me to have a go an a full DH rig ;) and the rest is history. Did a few races after that and Master's thanks to you.

Then I tried to fix a broken bit and haven't been on a bike since....

I'll be back though!!!

Do another intro day. It's the right thing to do Nige

Thanks Nigel - I'm always in for a bit KZN enduro goodness (Cascades was my favourite race this year - although I missed Karkloof).

NoFearNoFun - thanks dude, I've been following the Hakahana thread and keen to ride it. It would be great to have a Gauteng series.

As you may know I'm involved with bike park @ Morninghill Country Club, was chatting to some guys about the old downhill course just behind Gilloolys - its about as western cape as a hill could be, maybe some time in the future we could look at getting some trails cut.

Thanks again for the details guys - I'd be pumped to do more enduros next year

I am really keen for some enduro next year!

Doing the DH races on a trail bike on the same weekend sounds interesting  :w00t:

I have been looking at that hill for ages thinking there could be some potential for interesting lines. If you are going to do any scouting or building I would be keen to help

If we can get a Gauteng series going for 2015 and if I have anything to do with the event dates I will make sure they tie in with the KZN dates as I go down for each and every KZN enduro (I am not the only one). To add to that it would be cool to have the KZN boys coming up to our events as well.

Downhill is either of the following

Long sleeve pants and top ....

OR

Short sleeve shirt and shorts with Knee and Elbow guards ...

Chest protection is optional

You MUST have a Full face though - and Your Full face helmet MUST have  Visor

SO you cant be like Joey who doesnt have a peak on his lid!
