unfortunately I forgot to trigger my watch so not sure on the swim distance however i thought it was a bit long. i swim 1500 metres in around 23:45 normally...on the day i took 25:20 odd so i would not be surprised if it was 100 metres longer or so but negligible anyway

the cycle, yip 38.9 km

the run 9,9 as well. but it was damn close to 10.

This was an awesome event, nice preparation for 70.3. Run was my strong point but I like the bike more. The weather was just perfect. Now  I need to go swim, I was almost last at the swim.

By the way, on the cycle leg I was overtaken by a one legged cyclist ...man that guy was uber fast and only one leg. Kinda humbling and motivating at the same time

Oswald Kydd is an incredible athlete. 2h46m50s overall.

Unbelievable is his T1 of 2:17 which includes putting on his... leg!

Were you in a boat?

OPen water swimming is my original sport until I got bored with swimming up and down in a pool in the off season and bought a bike an takkies to do tri's .. So it is my strong event even though I have not been training as much as I used to.

That Oswald guy is amazing, I think I only ended a place or 2 ahead of him in category. I took nearly 5 in transition one. You got to take off yr hat to all participants because we know the sacrifices that are made to get to the start but some participants just deserve more respect...this ou and that other guy that takes his kid ...very humbling..

They will close when the limit is reached. Not sure when that will be. Ironman will let us know when there is like a 100 entries left and so on though via their facebook page.

It is a great Tri to start with...the swim is pleasant, the cycle leg is nice and fast with only the very last hill being any challenge and the run is 2 x 5km laps. It generally is well supported and entry to and exit from the event is well organized.

R902 this year, its a little expensive but you get a nice bag, a really cool shirt and a generally a well organsied event.

As a first intro to Tri, I think it ticks all the boxes so do it.

Luckily I've already registered! Training not going as healthy as I would've hoped after the big move to Nelspruit and new job and everything. Have to work hard the remaining 3 weeks!

Atleast I got a wetsuit by now... 20mins to get on, 30secs to get out... lol

Just entered, this will officially be my first Try at a TRI (Lame I know but hey, its Friday)

Will Germiston Lake be warm enough to swim without a wetsuit as i don't own one?

Yip, last 2 years it's been around 19 degrees.

While I own a wetsuit I only wear it in PE.
