Kay, I had to remote in to my laptop at home to get it done. So quality isn't there, but this should give you an idea of the Rooiberg decent

Apparently it's been graded since we rode it - I've heard that it is smooth and fast now...

Crested it as the sun stuck it's head out over the horizon, then bombed down there on my trusty Anthem 26er in the golden morning sun. Smile almost went right around my head :D

I love hamburger smiles and 26" Mountain bikers !!!!!

Hi guys - can any of you who has done the 36one challenge please provide more detail the route / conditions / technical difficulty of the 36One challenge? Comparison to Jhb routes / trails or other events eg Jhb2C would help. My partner is somewhat nervous as he is new to MTBing.

apologies if this has been asked before.

thanks

There is no route in JHB that will prepare you for 36One!!!

Best is to get to know your bike and enjoy riiding at night!

it is not technical, but as mentioned the night riding makes it more interesting. The Climbs are long and the decents are fast!

hope it helps

Go and ride Breedts nek in hekpoort/ 3x in one day. That is the equivalent to half way or just under half way of the 36one. Make sure you keep hydrated. we rode in 42.2 degree heat last year. . The race is fanatastic. The water points are of the best ever.

train hard. uphill uphill uphill. kingskloof is also a good training place. 3x laps. see you at the 36one!!!!!

Ride up and down your driveway for 16 hours, starting on a Friday night after getting home from work. Ensure your wife comes to check up on you every 2 hours with KFC and/or Steers, and in the wee hours, brandy. As the sun rises, start putting on all the cycling kit you own to simulate the Karoo heat. Swap your saddle for a prickly pear.

If you survive this, you'll be just fine.

I reckon I will have to stick to stick to my tried and trusted training for any such event....Krugersdorp - Magaliesburg - Breedts Nek - Hekpoort - Krugersdorp (150km) - Repeat......dont think there is much science to finishing this ride......

How will you guys ensure that your gps units run the full 361km? Just my tip on what I will be using  ^_^

I know the Bryton ryder 40 has 24hr battery life but its memory is too small if you want to have power data for the whole race....

So I am going to use my CycleOps Joule... solution is that I will be riding with a Amped battery back, its small and can charge your phone even. (the pack can charge an iphone twice)

The CycleOps Joule can charge while operating.

How long does one of these 'amped goodies take to charge, say your Bryton?
