Straight fork in tapered headtube?

It's part of what you need, but not all - if the Zaskar's got an integrated headset all you'll need is a bearing, if it's semi-integrated you'll need a bearing and a cup.

A pic of the bottom of the head tube would help.

Here are some more pics if it helps

Awesome thanks for all the replies guys.

So the cheapest option would be to get a new headset with the race adapter included like shaper said?

If you have the bearings then you ONLY need that adapter as posted by shaper.

No need for cups etc.

If you dont have a headset then just buy the one like shaper suggested.

droo, ALL GT frames that are tapered HEADSET is integrated.

i have a gt force with a tapered headtube and run a nontapered fork

nothing wrong with it, although the cane creek lower headset cup did set me back R670...

Is that the price for just the cup on its own that let's you use a std 1 1/8" headset bearing in it for the straight steerer?

No cup required, is an integrated headset.

Remove old crown race

Fit new crown race, slide A

Buy 1 1/2" bearing from lbs, fit onto crown race

Slide fork into frame

Fit existng top half of old headset and cap

Fit spacers

Fit stem

Screw in top cap and tighten everything

You asked in a pm for instructions of what do do middle of this week which I replied to.

All you need is the larger bearing which many including myself have highlighted on more than one occaision

So the new lower bearing is a reducer in of itself?

No, the lower bearing is a normal bearing, the crown race that goes on the fork shown in Slide A earlier is a modified race crown adaptor that goes on the fork. The ID of the crown fits a straight steerer with a raise chamfered ring on it to fit the normal 1 1/2" bearing.

That adaptor in Slide A is from crane creek and is slightly different to the Giant adaptor that i posted a pic of earlier in that the Giant adaptor has a complete raised section chamfered and profiled to fit a normal tapered lower bearing.

See link below of a much better pic of the crown race where you can see the larger ring to fit a normal 1 1/2" bearing and a smaller ID for the straight steerer. It also has a built in dust cover (blue)
