That's it. THIS is the bike I'm saving for. Even if just frame & fork only, and then upgrading wheels laaaater.

I wonder if there was a more scientific and/or standardised way to test bikes, what the results will actually look like?

Most of the times these reviews and tests are really nothing more than a marketing/sales showcase....

It's not like we have torque, k/watt, top speed, 0-100, or a famous racetrack times to objectively compare these bikes or technologies. Fark, we can't even have a drag race...

Only concrete thing we have is weight, and that doesn't count for much in this category bike???

To make things worse, most of these bikes will be built in custom, so Forks, Wheels and other bits must have a significant impact on real performance.

For example, $hitty hoops must drag this bike down. Or worse, what happens if you put a crappy ROCKSOCKS instead of Fox on the front end of this?

Only fox I'd consider is the new 36. It's that, the Pike or the new marzo

But yes. You're right. Parts kit is integral which is why it's best to get a standard set up ito fork wheels and so on so that the frame can br assessed from a neutral perspective

This is the one the missus wants, in this colour (green).  I still find the toptube too short for my liking.  My Stumpy was 648mm this is 640mm.  I don't want it to look like a XC bike either, so the Yeti SB6C is still my weapon of choice, but I will give credit where it is due, this is a nice bike.

careful what you say about rockshox...  at least until you owned a pike

none the less, that would be a cool job...  coming up with tests and metrics to objectively assess bike performance.  i'd give up my day job anytime for that!
