XTR M970 Crank Removal

Ok so I have converted my 3x9 setup to a 1x10 setup and I am loving it all the way.

The problem I'm having with my latest build project is that the angle of my chain on the 1x10 setup is a bit much and when I backpedal the chain "gears down"

So I have asked my LBS to remove one of the spacers between the crank and the bb and to put my chainring on the inside of the spider to rectify the problem. My new problem is that I would have to take my bike in to the shop to take the crank off to put on my bigger/smaller ring every time I want to swop them. I also like to service my bike myself on a regular basis.

My question is: DO you guys know of a way to remove the M970 crank without the TL-FC35 tool or must I pay the R490 excl VAT and get me one of the tools to remove the crank.

Look, I'm sure you'd have reasonable success with an angle grinder, a crowbar and a 4 pound hammer, but I'm guessing you'd prefer the crank to still be functional afterwards.
