wisecrack Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Im buying this frame tomorrow for +- 9k and wanted to know the opinions of fellow hubbers if it's good value for money. it's a full carbon bike btw and here is a link to the bike. Any thoughts of other frames I should consider in my price range. I can also get a Silverback Kansas frame for about a k less ,but I like the look of this frame more. http://www2.merida-bikes.com/en_INT/Bikes.Detail.114
wisecrack Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 wow no thoughts must be a really bad frame :-)
AndreZA Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 wow no thoughts must be a really bad frame :-) I don't hink it's that. It's just nobody's got one.
PappaBear Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I'm a mtb'er, so sorry, no thoughts.... I can only say it looks nice...
Christie Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hi wisecrack. I have not ridden the frame, but it seems like a very good frame based on Tour Magazines 2008 frame test (Tour tested a Merida Scultura Evo Flx, I'm assuming this is the same one) For a size 56,Weight were frame:934g fork:342g headset78g. It was the 5th lightest frame of the 24 on testStiffness of the fork and the frame was in the middle of the pack, a bit lower than some of the top contenders, but better than the lowest. All in all, the conclusion was that it offerd good stiffness to weight, and if you are a smaller/light rider, it should work very well for you. If you are a big sprinter, it may not be ideal. The comfort rating they give in the test was the worst aspect of the frame. Once again it was not the worst on test, but the rear dropout was stiffer in the vertical direction compared to most frames tested. On their overall rating (for wat its worth) it finished ahead of some big names like Giant, Look and Wilier. From the site you posted, the smaller frame sizes have got a 72 degree head tube angle, which should result in handeling which leans toward stable, as opposed to fast.
bob_the_builder Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 We all though the Evo was made by Mitsubishi... Oh, wrong Evo...
David #7 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Well I ride a Scultera 909, its one awesome bike, love riding it.Cant go wrong.
Gumpole Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 do the FLX, the 909 and the 907 all have the same frame with different paintjobs and components? or is it like the Madones where there is actually a difference? Had a look at a 907 recently and was a little surprised at how heavy it was! BUT this is one of the most beautiful bikes around!!
wisecrack Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Thanks on your thoughts guys. I already paid for the frame so I really hope I made the right choice. Now to wait for the frame to arrive.
