Not sure if something like this exists or not and a search of google or the hub has not been fruitful.

Basically what I am looking for is an app/website that can plot a route according to certain parameters to mimic (as close as possible) the route of a race you are not able to ride as it is 1000's of KM away.

Reason is ask is because my wife is doing IM 70.3 in 2015 in East London and would like to plan a local (CPT) route that she can ride to give a close idea of what to expect.  I'm not worried about if her training is adequate or not as the program she is on we get her though it, would just like to easy her mind a bit.

Strava has a route builder function where you can define parameters like flat routes using the min elevation toggle and some other bits too. I'm fresh into using it but if I find any other useful functions I will update you here. (I have a premium subscription but it looks like it's part of the free bouquet of features)

You can plot routes on google earth and it will give you the distance, profile, etc, too. A bit time consuming though. Or you can search for routes of other riders in your area or any area using garmin connect.

I was more hoping to put in criteria like distance, total elev gain, ave gradient etc and then the closest route to say my house matching the criteria is shown..

Maybe a bit too unrealistic??

Maybe your onto something here. If it doesn't exist maybe you could get someone to create it for you. You might create something as big as strava?

All the info is available in apps like stava and google etc, so suppose it is just a case of writing a program to crunch the numbers..

The route builder in strava does exactly what you are asking.
