What is it with people riding stuff straight on the spruit.

Oh my word, some legend took it personal.

It was bound to happen .

The legends I am referring to is very single person who feels that they are the gatekeepers and guardians of The Spruit, is that simple enough for you ?

.

This stuff, Wyatt, is exactly what I am referring to.

Now you tell everyone why they should not take ownership and be be the "gatekeepers and guardians of the Spruit", as you put it. This is an awesome piece of Johannesburg's culture, whether you are a cyclist, a dog walker or any other person that uses it, and we should be proud enough to want to look after it.

But also be mature enough that it does not belong to one particular group, is that too difficult to understand ?

What are we all going to do when the council decides that there will be no more bicycles allowed on the Spruit ?

Are we going to sign a petition ?

Do a protest ride ?

We are outnumbered and the quicker we get the gist of that, the better it would become for all involved .

Bud, the question is, what gives you the right to crack the whip over errant riders?

If I want to go ride the Spruit and mess up every line and jump, why can you tell me otherwise?

I think we went completely off topic here. The OP had a issue with people who would rather change a trail, than learn how to ride it properly. This is a "improve your skills" rant and maybe a "respect other riders and the trail" rant.

How did it end up with " You do not own the trail, so shut your trap" ?

The sidewalk in front of my house is council property, but I'll have a big issue if you do not have the driving capability to stay on the tar and drive over the bit of garden I have there...or dumb your garbage there.

Is it to much to ask CYCLISTS to respect other cyclists, walkers, commuters and the trail which they did not build or help maintain?

A self confessed " Spruit Rat".

So, some "Spruit fairy" decides to build a new line on Council property, certain riders ignore that line and it's now fine to pass judgement on "unskilled" riders.

This is public property, I can ride it however I want.

Again, why is it okay to chastise riders who do not ride the lines that are created by the "fairies"? The Spruit is not a pay-to-ride park, where the owners can enforce their own rules.

Its called courtesy, admittedly that's a trait that is ever increasingly in short supply for some reason

Well, thank f*** we have traffic laws on our roads.

I'm sure you have the same attitude when taxi drivers just do what they want, whenever they want.

If you have no respect for other users of a trail, maybe you shouldn't ride there.

The point I'm making is this:

  1. Don't label riders as "unskilled" because they don't ride the lines you want them to; and
  2. No rider has the right to police/chastise any other rider for the lines they ride.

I never said be an uncourteous douchebag.

Yes, they can't respect each other let alone runners and people walking their dogs, now you expect them to ride a "line"

And if I come and do donuts on the pavement outside your house and eff up the flower beds that you spend every Saturday watering, how happy will you be?

Have some respect, that's all anyone has asked.
