I need some advise please.

My SRAM X3 got jammed in the spokes.

Is a SRAM X9 compatible with an 8spd?

Is it advisable to buy a 2nd hand one?What do I have to look for should I buy a second hand one ?

Not compatible, as X9 is 10 speed. Replace with X3, try get new as they are not to pricy.

X4 is also 8 speed

Also determine why your derailleur ended up in the spokes in the first place.  Check that the hangar is not bent and that the limit screws are adjusted correctly.

Not compatible, as X9 is 10 speed. Replace with X3, try get new as they are not to pricy.

X9 can also be 9 speed.
