Hi guys. I am in need of some advice. I am currently on brink of purchasing a road actually my 1st. I previously used a friends road bike and really enjoyed riding it but now prefer to getting my own. The bike is going for R2000. Im not exactly sure if its worth the price. I simply want to use to the bike for casual rides and possibly train and enter a race or two. Would you guys suggest I take the bike as something to start off with and upgrade at a later stage? Or would it be a waste? Really need some input will be highly appreciated.

Looks okay, but just make ute it fits you properly. That's the most important right now.

Upgrade with a new bike later, I wouldn't bother with upgrades on this one.

Hope you enjoy it man!

That Giant is a good buy at R2,000 and could serve you well for many miles. IMHO I would ditch that saddle for a road specific one and get some Look Keo Classic pedals.

You don't mention age or specs, but considering that it has the older quill type headset, I'm guessing a late 90s model. Quill headsets disappeared from bikes back then.

The shifters are Shimano Sora, so I can assume that the rest is also Sora and therefore the bike is pretty entry level.

I wouldn't pay R2000 for a bike that is 15 years plus old with Sora components. You can get much newer bikes for that price.

Offer him R1200 or look around for something else. There are plenty of 2004/5 Raleighs with the higher level Tiagra for that price.

Agreed as well as getting fresh tyres. All Contact points are the most important parts on the bike. Hands, feet, arse and wheels, oh and get a good helmet in case the head wants to play too

I don't know how to post a link from my phone, but Zubair123 has a 2011 Fuji with a mixture of Sora and Tiagra for R2650. A much better buy in my opinion. Just check in the classifieds, you will find it.
