Double or Triple Crankset

Hi Hubbers.

I'm an avid road cyclist, been into the sport for the last 4 years but wanna try my hand at mountain biking. Gonna be looking to purchase my bike in the next week or so.

I obviously ride a double on my roadie but do I really need a triple on the mountain bike? Would I struggle without a granny gear off road? I'm obviously not keen on a triple but don't want to buy a double and then struggle and push up hills on the trails .

Any feedback would be great?

if youre getting a 29er then go 2x10, you still have granny which would be something like a 22x36 which will get you up pretty much anything. If its a 26er then you may want to consider the big ring option offerred on a 3x10 to keep up on the fast stuff.

Or go 1x10 and get it over with now.....

I have just switched to 2X10, had been riding 3X9 for a long time, I didn't have a problem with the later, but after doing some research, you find that there are a few ratio's the same on the 3X9. So less crossover ratio and less weight that guys pay a fortune for. Try get 2X10

Have a great New Year
