Rockshox RL Monarch rear shock?????

HI guys

I have a this shock on my Anthem and I am getting a lot of bob with it. It's set to 25% but it still does not feel truly stiff on the straights. I still do some group rides on tarmac and where my hardtail buddies cruise I feel like I have to play more with my gears and cadence to push on the tar for a smoother ride....on the gravel that thing just turns into a different bike and eats up trails very nicely....I bought the bike for trail riding and endurance stuff so thats first prize. I would however like for it to stiffen up a bit more on the tar...is that even possible, can I pump it up a bit more or something.

I dont really know anyone else that has had this shock before, so I hope someone here can help me.

Should I just get a FOX CTD or am I being stupid because this is what a full suspension bike should feel like?

Thanks guys.

Sorry... I meant to say that even when it's lockout out I stil get a fair amount of bob. This is my first fullsus, so I'm not sure if it's normal.

Pump it up according to your weight and then add an additional 15% pressure it will never be rock hard as this would damage the shock and comparing a HT to a DS on Tar???

Also for me a MTB is for trails and XC you mentioned it becomes a better bike on the correct service so to me it sounds like it doing its job.

Or if you want to ride on Tarmac buy a road bike

Well depending on the tune of the rear shocks' compression, I would say a fair amount of squatting is common.

If it's last resort then pump the shock up to 250psi for your road adventures. ( not so good for lubrication though).

As wepat mentioned, a HT or road bike will be a better bet. Especially when it comes to maintenace.

My CTD shock on my Tallboy LTc moves a bit more than I expected on the climb setting but still stiffer than the Trail and Descend settings. I would not change to a CTD shock...its basically a horizontal 'upgrade' IMO. A DB Inline would be an upgrade and on this you would get external controls for adjusting slowspeed compression and rebound and a 'climb' switch. So you could theoretically change settings for tar and offroad riding.

My RP23 on max platform/no 3 click setting is very firm when locked out, as perfect a lockout I'd ever need, suppose the degree of lockout also depends on the leverage ratio of your frame and the travel.

If it's still bobbing substantially when locked out then there's something wrong. How new is it? If still in the warranty period take it to your LBS and get them to check it out

Thanks guys.

When lockout out I get a little bob, enough to have me fiddle with gears up or down and adjust my cadence then it smooths out. I'm not complaining about it, maybe I'm trying to make a hardtail out of a fullsus which is never going to happen I think. I just thought that there might be another shock that could stiffen up quite close to a hardtail (again, this is my first fullsus).

Another question.....do I lock out when I ascent, front and rear? Thanks.

Try making your tire pressure a bit lower. It made a massive difference for me. i use to ride 3.5  bar and then lowered it to 2.4 and it was much better on the small fast stuff.(when descending)

Thanks Sakkie, that might also be part of my problem, I ride 2.2 bar on UST Crossmarks (Arch rims), Maybe my tyres are too flat for tarmac?

I did a 75km tar ride on my mtb the other day ( I dont have a road bike). Tyres at 3bar and it was ok. No grinding. Normally for trails I ride just under 2 bar on a tubeless 29er
