Main one was the declining spectator numbers compared with other rounds (we went from almost 30000 in 2011 to about 10000 last year) .... Then the cost of getting here was killing the teams (especially the DH teams - as many of the XC teams came out for the Epic anyway) ... Then the lack of gradient on the middle section of the DH track and the fact that guys could run beefed up trail bikes meant that the UCI didnt want that for DH But it is what it is ... we are hoping that the UCI may bring back XCO World Cups at some point in the future, but I think DH is done. Unless a new venue that can host a double event somewhere in SA bids for it.
nigelhicks Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 in any event - We will have a kickass festival over the weekend that would have been the World Cup (Easter Weekend) ... with a ton of cool events ... As we dont have the restrictions set by the UCI to abide by now we can really let our imagination run wild and there are some big things planned. So keep an eye out.

nigelhicks Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 2016 will be the first time the UCI splits the World Champs with the DH and Trials being in Val Di Sole Italy and the XCO being in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. This is due to 2016 being an Olympic year with Olympics in Rio between the 5th and 21st August... So the UCI will have the XCO worlds earlier in the year to accommodate the Olympics as well, whereas the DH and Trials will be at their usual time at the end of August as they are not Olympic disciplines.
