Hey guys, i have a bit of a strange situation developing in my Garage.

i have 3 bike frames( all broken and not really fixable), 2 groupsets, 4 or 5 pairs of handlebars, a set of wheels and countless other items that i have collected over the years, some have value and some not. the question, i am going to get a box together for donation but thats not going to be everything i have and in essence i will still have the frames etc collecting dust.

my question is what to do with the bits that cant be donated?

it just doesnt feel right to throw them away, but i also know they are pretty close to useless as they are, are there any other hubbers that have a similar problem and what if any are the recommendations as to what to do with the bits etc?

what is wrong with the frames?

We have a few kids (whos parents cant afford decent kit), who we help with parts and kit.  I build up working components from broken stuff.  I can take a lot of it off your hands

As far as I remember, @divernick will use some of the stuff for his build a bike project. I also think that he'll service whatever is useable. Send him a PM and see if he could find some use for it.

Just list the items and see what is wanted, as the others said you might think of it as useless but there may be someone who has a use for it or is able to fix it and use it for a good cause.

Hi Guys,

Perhaps this is the place to ask a similar question...I noticed on Sunday that my bike's (Silverback Phoenix) frame is cracked around the piece between the main frame and the seat stalk clamp, just above the weld.

Is this fixable ? My seat stalk is pretty long and is still a good 2.5 to 3 inches past the crack.

I'd be grateful for any input.

Thanks and regards

What material are the frames made of?

All aluminium frames

they have been subjected to my abuse over the years, all have major structural damage,/ broken chain stays, over stressed alu on critical parts and linkages and frame walls that are bent and not repairable. they are also a rather hefty weight for donation bikes, all are large all mountain frames so i suspect while a cool gift they may just kill the poor kids that may receive them, i also dont feel it is appropriate to gift a frame that has a potential to break and cause harm to the person riding it.

i know divernick and his "build a bike program", i will be donating parts to himself an dillon gladly when i have put the boxes together, will do a 50/50 split as they are both worthy causes.

as i say my question is more around the frames and non usable items (i have built and broken enough bikes to know when something is properly poked), otherwise i suspect i may be putting a wall of shame together in the garage until my wife tells me otherwise:-)
