Nukeproof have better grip and much lower weight than saints. Also half the price if you get the 2014 ones from crc. Dnot skimp on the shoes, it's your most important contact point with your bike and 5/10s make a massive difference over other brands I've tried. It's the difference between being able to drag your foot back and up and not being able to.

A few weeks back I knocked my toe. I think its only healed now. However I was riding in a pair of puma court shoes. The soles are flat, no knobs sticking out and they offered what I thought was good grip. So after I knocked my toe I realised that it is time to get a proper mtb shoe. I had a look around. 510, specialised and 661. I went with the 510 free riders vxi.

I am the kind of person who moves their feet around all the time on the pedals depending on the obstacle ahead, I think this is due to my bmx days or just bad habit. Anyway, I cant do that anymore, my feet stays planted even if it is only part of my foot on the pedal.

I am extremely happy with them and I also like how solid it feels over the top of the foot. Almost like safety shoes

I have just thought of a solution the my pedal problem.. Put the clipless back onto my XC bike and then buy a trail bike for flats and 510's..  :w00t:  (one can dream  )
