Looking for swim video analysis buddy

Of course ideal is a swim coach, but most of us know enough of swim technique to make most of the major corrections ourselves.

I am looking for someone to join me in shooting a video of one another in a pool somewhere between Vereeniging and Joburg South. I have an old fashioned tape-type video camera and a new Go Pro look-alike and we all have cell phones. I prefer a quiet time such as middle of the day on a week day when the gym pools are not so crowded.

PM me if you are interested

No! of course not serious. Wrote this posting just to practice my typing

You see, an A-level hot-shot racing snake like you will find it difficult to comprehend that a mickey mouse D-level triathlete might aspire to move up to mickey mouse C level

I came right with a partner and am looking forward to our video session. (together we might even move up to mickey mouse B level!!!)

Good idea Henley

I got my wife to film me one day using my iphone 4 camera, got the fright of my life....

Hehe. I've been meaning to do this for ages. But ja, worried I'm not gonna like what I see...self pity is a terrible thing.

When you swimming you feel like you doing everything right, then when you see in real life what is actually happening

Ja look I know I can be much more efficient in the water. I sort of learnt myself to swim with some input from my girlfriend. So you kinda feel ok in the water, but deep down you know there's a 100 things you can do better. You pick up these little bad habits and if you don't get a coach or take a video you'll never improve.

I thought all was hunky-dorey until I got filmed for the Total Immersion swimming course. Forging through the water at 45 degrees, legs trailing like dead kelp. Underwater cam is very necessary for a real analysis.

If doing swim analysis yourself, make sure that you focus on causes not symptoms.

By that I mean a lot of people see legs dragging and they assume it is an issue with the kick. 80% of the time it is with the front end of the stroke.  So unless you can work that out yourself go see a swim coach.

Absolutely!! you are so right! As novices we could easily fall in that trap. I could use the recording to discuss that with a coach of course.

Thanx guys. Got to go get some sleep now - to rise a 3 am tomorrow morning for the drive to the Buffelspoort half IM

Make sure you have a chat with the gym manager before you do. Most of the gyms have express rules against using a camera in the gym.

They are normally fine with it, but just ask.
