Cant wait - looks like a rad course with some tech and some high speed! I'll be there on Friday morning to have a practice (have to split my time between this and looking at wedding venues LOL)

Good luck knowing where the trails go on Friday morning!! ... We only start taping on Friday morning. hahaha

I've been looking for an opportunity to explore the St Ives Trails, but have not wanted to ride alone.  I think Friday will be a good time because there will be folks around.  If you find me unconscious  on the side of the trail,  please tell the medics I'm O- .

O-, O+, or O-K? :)

See you on Friday.

Hey just got a message this morning that there'll be craft beer, lake jumping and pump track!! Who could ask for more? Well done guys you've provided all a man, and possibly brunetteonabike, needs!

St Ives / Big Wheel Cycles trails are really good and it is perfectly safe to ride in St Ives on your own (unless you crash) ... within the property there are a couple of shallow trails at the base of the hill, but to get any distance you have to climb! and its HARD!! ... All in all within the property you can do about 30km max if you ride every trail

Check out Big Wheel Cycles website as they have a number of more gentle trails that go outside of St ives property that create about a 5 or 10km loop in the Sappi forestry opposite Piggly Wiggly. You ride out the gate, down to the Piggly Wiggly Entrance, and the trails start opposite that ... from here there are some really nice trails - but I suggest downloading the google earth file from the website and converting it to a GPX file for your garmin (if you have one) for the first time you ride there.

Thanks so much......I'll try explore as many of the trails as possible.  Climbing is good especially if it is singletrack!!

Inside St Ives the Trail network as it is shown on their map will be CLOSED for normal riding - Friday to Sunday! ... as we a using a number of the trails in reverse for the weekend so we dont want any headon collissions with riders practicing and then general public. . I think for singletrack climbs you best bet is to consult the Big Wheel Cycles maps and try the trails in the Sappi property just outside of St Ives itself ....

I think you misunderstood....sorry.  I was not meaning that I intend to ride up the downlines, only that I don't mind climbing to get the ride the trails and I enjoy climbing singletrack most.  I thought of maybe finding a group and tagging along.  I'll come another time.

Sorry for the implied confusion, but I did get your point.

No one intends to ride the downlines in reverse ... BUT for the event we as KZNMTB will be utilising some of the trails in reverse for this weekend only. (So it is actually us in the wrong ... not the general public - thats why we close the trails)

So the singletrack climb to the top of the hill will, for this weekend only, be used as a down trail, with ALL access to the top of the hill up the access road. So there will be no singletrack climbs open within St Ives property, only ones on Big Wheel Cycles trails just outside in Sappi land.

So you are more than welcome to come over on Friday and join anyone who is riding, but I just wanted to stress that the general trails in the park will be closed in their normal forms to accommodate the event.

Let me give an example ... So if you were to ride for instance the Standard XCO loop that St ives have on their website you would be riding against the flow of the Enduro event in at least 4 sections where we are utilising the trail in reverse to link pieces of trail together for the event.. So it is only in these instances where there may be an issue if you just going to ride the standard trails in the park ....

HOWEVER - if you join a group who are riding/practicing for the enduro and go and ride our designated stages that would be great, and I know you would have a fun time.

Thanks

Nige
