You have to start somewhere ...I 'd concur with the advice instead of entry level new try and pick up a secondhand bike,,,it's just not about looks its mostly about the ...components.

Read up the difference between the ranges available from shimano, sram etc.you wont believe the difference it makes to riding pleasure. wheels that spin freely ,brakes that don't bind ,shocks that actually act as shocks.Over the years I've owned  new and pre owned bikes.

The pre owned bikes have always been the better deal.

Whatever your decision get out there on a bike see if you like it and move on from there.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will keep looking, but honestly, I am not spending 50k @Redlight.

@Ruan, the advert was removed, so someone jumped before I could see it. Ai...

I will consider a second-hand, as allot of people keep suggesting. But getting a bike someone else already tortured just doesn't always sound like a good buy...

I'll keep looking and keep you guys updated. and post pics and Qs here if I see something.

A pic of the Trek...

Nice.. When I think when I started, my first mtb was an Avalanche AX250, which if I remember correctly, cost around R2000 at the time.

Nevermind what Redlight says, he's talking out of his a-hole. Just because it's second hand, doesn't necessarily mean it's been tortured. Most of your brand new sub 5k "cheapies" will be in a far worse state after a ride or two than a similarly priced pre owned bike.

You would be astonished at how much torture a good bike with even semi-decent components can endure.

A bike with crap components? Not so much.

bud have a look at the Titan Cruz 2015 model I bought one for my brother as he has just started to ride, I picked it up for R4850 at Ridgeway Cycle (Stoneridge Center Modderfontein) its a great beginner bike with semi decent components and it wont break the bank!!
