FOX 32 Float Evolution CTD Air - Fork

A new 2015 Scott Spark 940 with a Fox Float Evolution CTD Air Fork ... CTD does not have rock solid lockout but has a lockout that has a "breakaway" and travel of a max of 12mm as the spec.First fork had issues on lockout travel length and jerkiness on breakaway and replacement fork ok on travel but still jerky on breakaway.

So, very interesting question ... has anyone had this jerkiness on the same fork?

According to Fox, this is a known issue and fixable by installing the FIT preformance Cartridge (same that is in the factory CTD fork). Unfortunately this is a cost increase for the bike owner as it is not a warranty issue - it is how Scott specced the bike and that's that. Scott and the LBS are blissfully unaware of this issue and the LBS advises that they have sold many bikes with no hassles.

it will be interesting to have some feedback.

Thanks

Hi Andre, welcome to the hub.

The Evolution series is fraught with issues, have become better over time from the first edition but still problematic.

Essentially the Evolution series is Fox's way of trying to make a cost effective suspension platform...but that's where benefit's stop so to say.

Yes, one of the solutions is a FIT cartridge at an astronomical amount. The other is to sell the evolution fork and look to purchase a performance or factory model. Alternatively move to another brand like Rock Shox or Manitou.

If it was my money, i would sell on and look to invest in a far better product...

I've got the same fork on one of my bikes and have honestly not ridden it locked out -  I just leave it in the trail position -  but from just kidding around (e.g. after washing it) it does feel jerky when locked out. I just accepted it because I thought it's not really suppose to break away. The fork is the one thing I would upgrade on an otherwise excellent bike. Was actually hoping upgrading to the FIT cartridge after reading your post would be a (cheaper) option, but More Trails just squashed my (short lived) dream.

Fox Evolution CTD is a really poor performing fork. Not sure why Fox charge what they do for it as well...

Solution is to upgrade to a Rockshox.

Checked with Fox yesterday and they advised that the FIT cartridge is the same one that is in the Factory fork but that there are more tweaks on the valves to get it to factory spec. Sad that Scott spec this fork and don't just put a Factory one one. The FIT cartridge will fix it but the chunk of change needed is daft!

I have the same problem on my vipa. When I lock both shocks I hop around on the bike like crazy, I look like I am on a spin bike with no resistance. I went to my lbs to find out what is going on, because it is driving me CRAZY, they told me thats just how it is, put the bike in a higher gear and crank, which is not an acceptable answer.

I also had issues with the CTD fork,it does not lock out like the rock shock. That was my first complaint.

I was told to up the fork pressure.

At Berg and Bush the fork actually started making a noise on big hits, not bottoming out, this for a one year old fork.Send it in R1300 later and sorted.

As a lighter rider I cannot run high fork pressure because then the fork action will be affected.

When buying again I will return to RS

CTD is supposed to have lockout movement of between 3-12mm. By around 500km, bike had both rear shock and front fork replaced. New fork still jerky on lockout breakaway but LBS and Scott advise how many bikes they have sold and how this is new to them. Guys with the CTD factory shocks have no issues.

same on my fork and also the low bump compliance is not good as well as the fork does not have a smooth travel in first 20-30mm ...sticky no matter how well i clean it. I have come to realise and have been told on numerous occasions that these forks just dont work well.

Much the same as how Anthem frames never crack, according to the agents.

Either learn to service that cartridge or upgrade to the FIT. The end.
