Event Name: Amarider 100Miler
When: 23 May 2015
Where: Malmesbury, Western Cape
Category: MTB

You have done most marathons and tried stage racing. How about an individual one-day mountain bike ultra marathon of 160km that is affordable? The scenery is beautiful in the Swartland during Autumn and the riding is not technical.

Endurance riding has exploded in popularity over recent years and this year will see the seventh edition of The Amarider 100Miler taking place in Malmesbury on the 23rd of May. From the humbling beginnings that grew in 2009 to what is now one of the must-do-events on the mountain biking calendar. The weather conditions play a major role in testing your endurance, as mud, wind or rain do on most outdoor events.

This event will start early morning just as the sun is rising, with astounding scenery that is spellbound to keep the legs going for many hours. Only pre-entries will be accepted for both distances. Entries are limited and remember that this is a seeding event for Die Burger MTB Challenge 2015.

The 160km (100Miler) route is divided into three sections of approximately 55km with two compulsory timing checkpoints. The format of the race creates perfect vantage points for spectators and support. While the competition is based on solo riders completing the entire course these riders can form 4-man teams and enjoy a day out with mates on a saddle (of course)! The team results will be based on the 4th rider crossing the line thereby encouraging teamwork and camaraderie.

The shorter route option of the 50Miler (80km), starts at the halfway mark at Riebeeck Kasteel and ends with the 100Miler riders at Swartland Winery. This event also provides an opportunity for keen riders to taste endurance riding along with twist and turns against the clock.

Timing:

You will need an Amarider Trail Tag to be timed for this event, you will tag in and out at various check points along the route.

The Trail Tags are available for purchase at R100 or for rent at R50. You’ll use the Tag at most Dirtopia and Amarider events, so you might as well purchase one. If you don’t have a Trail Tag you MUST purchase a temporary Trail Tag at R50 OR a permanent Trail Tag at R100 upon entering.

if we tell you it will be too easy rather try it for yourself & then you can come & explain it to the other newbies? P.S. I'm also not being sarcastic. But it's tougher hard to believe but it is.

I think you are making a mistake thinking that the 100miler can be compared to a 160 km road race....... or 200km for that matter.  As Milky said: Rather do it and then decide for yourself.

Do you think Trans Baviaans is boring too? What about the Desert Dash? or the 360? There is not a single km of singletrack in these events either. Unfortunately Trekking has not taken off in SA as it could have (or should have). I have done some amazing Trekking rides around the Garden Route, South Coast, Overberg and Klein Karoo. Mountain biking is much more than a series of singletrack sections, often its a journey and an adventure.

If you are one of those mtb'ers who can't have fun unless there is singletrack involved this race is even worse than you think... It's not even jeeptrack, it's mostly district roads, you're worst nightmare....

There are some mtb'ers out there though, who find challenges & enjoyment in more than just singletrack. Personally I can stomach 1 or 2 long dirtroadie races a year, but doing this race 1 week after Sani2c is a massive anti-climax so I'm out for this round.
