I do trail riding, commuting and marathon xc races…. Reason I am thinking of the trance is that I read its a decent xc and its awesome on climbs and descends. I can get the trance for 500 more than the anthem goes for

I can get the trance for 500 more than the anthem goes for Decide which one is your number 1 priority and then buy the bike that is most suited to that. The 650B Trance is firstly a trail bike, ideal for even the rougher stuff, but it will also handle a marathon well, as long as you are not trying to race for podium. The Anthem is a race bike and in 29er shape the ideal thing for marathons, but it will also serve well as a decent trail bike, as long as you stay away from the bigger jumps and drops. (I have a 650B Trance and love it) The way I see it, you cannot really go too far wrong as it is!

But I am loveing the 29, and see the Anthem can climb like the Trance never could. But then the Trance is also untouchable down a hill.Either way you can't loose,Sarge

Baracuda Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Tricky. The Anthem won "Trail Bike of the Year" a few years ago. If you like drops, ramps and airtime, perhaps go for the Trance. If you like to generally stay close to the ground, perhaps go for the Anthem, it will be more efficient over marathon events. If you put a 120mm fork on it, it will also decent better.
s14phoenix Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 There will also be quite a difference in the equipment kitted oem on the 2 bikes...the anthem will probably be a bit lighter as well making climbing and XC racing a bit easier... if you are purely looking at the frameset and suspension then it will be quite a diffence in the bikes already. XC racing - What level are you competing? Podiums? Fun?Trails - how serious are you on the trails and how serious are the trails you ride? I love my trance on everything. I do not compete for podiums in XC races but I do a few for fun and a bit of a sense of competition. I like trail riding and am trying to go as fast as possible no matter the terrain and sometimes wonder if a anthem SX was not a better option - and then I start enjoying the 140mm travel and forget about an anthem again. As a good - do almost anything bike - the Trance is great but if you leaning more towards XC racing and only a bit of trails without getting too hectic etc then the Anthem is also a great option. The newer 27.5 anthem is also a good consideration as it now has similar angles to the older trances but with less travel. I honestly think you sound like a perfect candidate for a Anthem SX or a Anthem with a longer travel fork 2c toll in the bucket.

But the trance can do this too.The trance is a better trail bike. But the anthem can do this this too.Your choice.Personally I would take the trance.A little extra travel, slacker head and lower bb never hurt anyone.

Mr X Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 and lower bb never hurt anyone. I have seen people fall very hard on Anthems because of pedal strikes. And I think the bb is actually lower on the Anthem than the Trance. The low bb on the Anthem is crap. You have to watch every pedal stroke very carefully. The 120mm front on the Anthem SX lifts the bb and makes for a much better bike because of this.

Would like to see the prices of all models incl the Stance and also all the spec levels (1,2,3,4 etc) Is there no new bike price list? all makes all models all specs and their price? Like a full list? Would be very interested to see such a list as it would make picking the bike in your price range so much simpler
Runbikeswim Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 I don’t ride for podium, hell most of the races im bang smack in the middle and im now considered vet or sub vet anyway…So since my last 3 bikes where 29er, I just placed the order for the Trace, Taking the 2015 Trance 2 27.5. Its costing me 400 more than a anthem x1 would and around the same as a scott spark 950. lets see how fun the extra travel is and how it feels like on a 650
