The Spruit Chronicles

The Ridiculous

I see a lot of people go down because of the deep, narrow single track, especially the guys/ladies that clipped in. So yesterday a lady topples(falls) over right in front of me, so I stop to help her up, as you do....

That was me, and I asked to be left alone because of the fondling. And, I'm not a lady!

On the subject of the spruit chronicles can anyone confirm which is the preferred direction to ride the Emmerentia loop? I always ride it anti clockwise because that is the way it seems to have been crafted?( I may be wrong) what I cannot fathom is why one would do the top section along the Marks Park fence line and then down through the tree line in a clockwise direction.

I nearly collected five or six riders in the tree line yesterday who where coming up. I braked and made way for them as they were ascending and I was going down ( ascending has right of way yes?) Although Helen Keller would work out that that section is best ridden in anti clock direction the berms and jumps are shaped for it.

I ask the question in case I am missing some secret code (TIC) or perhaps the direction changes on different weekends?

I am aware that one is not supposed to question goings on, on the Spruit, what happens on the Spruit stays on the Spruit. :-)

You come across some seriously interesting folks along the spruit. I enjoy it and go at least once a week.

last week I missioned off in one of them deep ruts on the way down from victory park. The grass was long and grew over the path. Suddenly I couldn't see the path and I bailed. I was cruising and hit the deck so hard that I tore the sole off my cleated shoe.

I agree on the anti clockwise direction... however there is no hard and fast rule... so I guess, every now and then. you'll come across some who like to swim up stream....

Yeah we always cycle it anti-clockwise.  I don't see the point going the other way but yeah...from now on we shall call them SALMON.  Those who try to go in the wrong general direction.

It was built to be ridden Anti-clock, Well the section below the soccer fields along the fence at least.

with all the guys riding it the wrong way we even went as far as clearing another line so there was a dedicated up and down line with signage, but alas noone looks at those.

at the moment there is a blend between the 2 lines from people not being able to corner and finding the straightest line of the 2.

Need to go re-sweep it some time.

I would help with that. I dont mind the Salmon as much but would be good to have a clear indication along the route. Maybe steal some estate agent signs and attach them to the fence with arrows.

I cruised the spruit this morning through delta park...and I saw a cyclist riding in single file..the bastard!

Not sure if I could compare that sandy bit of track to my mtb backyard though....

ja nee. I was thinking about that "friend fom kzn". Either he's from Vryheid or he inhaled too much smoke and suffered hectic hallucinations.
