lloydkayak Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Hi all, A bianchi road bike frame was bought around this time last year through an authorised dealer. This weekend at a race, the hanger supplied with the new frame snapped and the result was that the derailler smashed through the rear seat stay of the carbon frame. Luckily the frame was insured and they are sorting it out. My local dealer told me that the frame will not be replaced under warranty because hangers are working parts and they fail from time to time. If the hanger is a year old and came with the frame, is this the correct interpretation? Surely the manufacturer should be held liable? Just curious, no shaming or flaming planned at all. The bike is owned by a chilled out 60 year old lady that just loves cycling, she is no big racer and rides very slowly (well she climbs rather well but descends like a grandma)

GreatGusto Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I reckon that a hanger will only break if it is subject to undue force - either from tangled chain, loading on a bike rack, a myriad of external factors. It's designed to break - to prevent the rear dropout from being damaged. It's hella unfortunate that in this instance, the chain stay got smashed, but one can't expect the manufacturer to cover that kind of risk or damage. If it happened to me, I would be in tears.
Tumbleweed Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Stand corrected, but under the CPA the hanger would be covered for six months...but that's assuming it failed because of a manufacturing defect.

The rider went to the warehouse yesterday and chose their brand new turquoise frame from a selection, even got a model upgrade! Great news all around but ja, still had to come from insurance instead of from the manufacturer. As mentioned, I guess it was just really *** luck.

I had a similar problem with a set of wheels I bought, googled the problem to find that I was not the only one!!! Needless to say the wheels were recalled globally. Good luck!

Not the cheapest but they are very reliable and have looked after the family business for a very long time. I must note that the policy is for a company and is comprehensive. It is a big policy
