I have two pairs of Spez shoes, one pair entry lv and one pair top the range, I did the 24 Hr in the entry lv pair, they just a lot more comfy, no hot spots - both are the same size, I did manage a 300km ride this pass weekend with then top of the range pair but felt like I was walking on coals afterwards.

Are you referring to the s works shoe?

Have been very happy with my Shimano shoes. Very durable. I prefer slightly flexible soles because I explore a bit and often portage. If you don't need this then stiff soled shoes are ok.

Stick with Specialized (Body Geometry "fits very great to your foot" tech)

Don't bother about the BOA "ratchet" style rather  go for the standard 3 strap velcro

Trust me - this comes from years of experience and trying / buying different MTB shoes

Good luck
