Traffic waiting at a robot, cyclist moves in on the left to get to the front passing the still standing cars within 1 meter = breaking the 1 meter rule, a very common occurrence.

A long stretch of road with no yellow line and oncoming traffic, not many motorists will wait in situations like this, they will be stuck behind the cyclist for very long and cause traffic problems.

there's only one solution.  stay off the roads.  if you ride on the road, you will have "near misses" and hopefully you are going to be lucky enough that it stays with "near misses".  People just drive too bad and there's no hope in educating drivers to be considerate.

edit:

i stopped riding on the road except for the cradle (not including the beyers naude stretch or the road from N14 to kloofzicht), suikerbosrand (if they open it again) and races with full road closure i.e. CTCT and 94.7.

for the rest it's not worth the risk for me.  I stick to my mtb for the rest of the time.

For every idiot motor vehicle driver there is an opposite, but equal, idiot cyclist.

It works both ways...let's use Cedar road as an example (Northern burbs of Johannesburg)...cyclists...taxis...motor vehicles - all 3 boast equal part idiots!

Wont help because they believe you must stop for them to turn. and proceed on our way.

hence peole need to be prosecuted, stripped of their driving licenses and they can only retake it after scoring 100% on the K53 test.

The test needs to b revised to include an interview and psychometric profile. Some people are just callous and probably treat their housekeeper and staff the same way they treat other road users. Yet they look respectable and civilised.

There are more of these than most would care to admit.

The K53 learner a test is an absolute joke!! Retook it a couple of years back cos wanted to tow a horse box... NOTHING in the test pertinent to trailers and vehicles capable of towing that weight ( you would be surprised the number of illegal towers out there... Or actually no given the state of our roads you won't be....)

The actual questions IMO have been dumbed down... When I took the test 15 or so years ago I remember having multiple choice with 5 choices now it's only 3 and fairly obvious - at least compared to 15 years ago when of the choices one was def " more right than the other" but oh so close....

Don't remember what was relevant to cyclists tho - if anything at all. Also not convinced on the merits of driving schools teaching road etiquette - seems many just train you to pass in a controlled environment.

I took my driving test in 1992, about 6 years after I learned to drive......I was not at legal age to take the test till the 90's but the test was pretty easy with answers failry obvious if you actually read the K53 manual. I opened one at CNA today........what a joke. and therein lies the rub

Impossible as there are about 20times as many motorist vs cyclist.

What you forget is that cyclist are fed up with the lawlessness and more than likely stopped caring.

Same thing happened to me. Was going up chappies from Hout bay side and i was as far left as possible. The guy had both lanes to safely pass me, yet he passes so close that i feel the side of the car brush me and the mirror hit me. The guy looked in his rear view mirror and carried on driving like nothing happened. At first i carried on cycling and thought nothing of it but the more I thought about it, the more pissed off I got. Ended up catching him at the boom and giving him piece of my mind.

Then the dumb idiots called our police officiers charge us with Assualt.

I had a driver run a stop sign.

Noticed the drive was using a cellphone, rode next to the car and told the driver to pull over, ignored me.

I caught the car at the next light, placed my bike in the road in front of the car to speak to the driver.

On lookers told me to leave the driver, i should just drop it.

When some security van arrived, i told them the story, they say i am at fault?

Then some dude arrives wants to get loud with, i tell him the driver almost caused an accident, he is not concerned.

Ja he was the husband, but i have witnessed so many careless women drivers who think they are innoccent.

Later he relises i got everything on camera, he ups and runs.

Good work FRAIL. Although I don't really have a dawg in this fight I think PPA should support people like FRAIL with  GoPro and legal assistance to prosecute or discipline.
