Shimano XT vs SLX Brakes

Im looking to replace my Formula C1 Brakes with either the Shimano XT or SLX.

The XT's looks allot better and cost about R700 more than the SLX brakes, but what the difference between the two? As I understand it, they are almost identical and work just as well, or dont they? Then you also get the Ice-Tec SLX brakes that is R 100 cheaper than the XT's. What the difference between normal SLX and Ice-Tec brakes and which Shimano brakes should I get? I mostly ride trails and some Enduro from time to time.

I'm only interested in the Shimano brakes, so please no Avid, Megura or Hope comments. Thanx

@ R100 difference i would go XT, anything over R500 difference then I would stay with the SLX, just as good and the extra couple of grams would not be noticeable.

I had the same problem 3 weeks back, ended up buying the XT's.

The XT's are very good, I run 180mm front and back on my DS 140mm bike, I weigh +-85kg's, they stop me.

As far as my little research went, the XT's are prettier and they have more settings and a bit easier to adjust (this last part might be wrong).

In the end my deciding factor was: "When going on to CWC again, will I be drooling over the XT's or rather something else". So I got the XT's for R700.00 more and I'm happy with them

Ito brakes, slx and xt are exactly the same from an internal workings point of view. The only thing that xt has thst slx doesn't is the screw vs splitpin (no real benefit) And the contact point adjustment which, apart from being able to adjust the position of the pads (either closer to the disc or further away) so you can set your bite point without using the old school method, allows you to run your pads for longer without losing your preferred bite point on the lever when you pull them.

They are identical in terms of the levers. Just cosmetics. I have both.

Calipers - Ice tec is nice to have but you need the rotors as well.

Use them if you do a lot of downhill and Enduro as they will cool quicker.

XC bikes - its your choice. Ice Tec looks really bling and Boss.

I have used both and rate the SLX's highly. There is very little between them. Although the current XT's on my bike seem to be set up a little better in terms of feel and are as efficient, also focus on the disc they are stopping…makes a big difference.

Thanks for the comments thus far. Seems the SLX brakes is the better buy for the price. Does the SLX and the XT both use the same brake fluid and brake pads?
