I had a similar issue until I realised  my wrench has a adjuster anfdthen a knob at the bottom that needs to be tightened up or the click doesn't work.

Hope that makes sense

I will check that out, I know that you have to tighten that locknut, but maybe I should tighten it a bit more?

The thing is I bought it online..... so have to send it back and wait etc. I will first let my LBS try it. Maybe I did not tighten that lock bolt enough?

Am I the only one that thinks one shouldn't expect our LBS to help us with something bought online?   (Unless is was the online section of your LBS...)

At least not for no charge ......

5Nm is not much. You can get 5Nm with a tight grip on a large screwdriver. Hang 5kg on a 10cm long lever...That's 5 Nm. You can easily apply this by hand using a normal Allen key with mild effort. My stem is rated for 9 Nm on the steerer bolts.

These torques are for clean threads lightly coated with anti seize

I know I should not always rely on my LBS to sort out these issues. My idea is for a skilled bike technician to just try my torque wrench and tell me what he thinks.

Obviously they will have more experience than me, so I can get an opinion from a skilled technician. If I could, I would ask you guys to try the thing and tell me what's up........but I can't.

They also won't charge me for it.........

Did you try and tighten your pedals or loosen them with the torque wrench? I say try tighten them with the wrench, set at 1nm, after you tighened them good by hand.

Also, what wrench is it?

Hi Kraggie

No I loosened them with the wrench set to 5NM, which is its minimum setting. I am sure the pedals were tightened to about 15-20Nm. I could try it in the other direction as well.

I am sure it is just a minor issue, I mean the thing is brand new.

Thing is if you don't work with wrenches the whole day it's difficult to know how tight 5 or 10 or 20nm is, 20nm in my opinion is quite tight, but for someone else it might not be that tight as they have another point of reference. Also depends on the bolt size ... you need to be certain the bolt is more than 5nm in the 1st place.

Take it to your LBS to try it out like you say.
