Still such a massive **** up, GC in 30+ is a mess with riders who started behind certain riders, finished behind them on last day by minutes fare no ahead on GC by minutes.

How on earth do you get it that wrong?

ASG are totally incapable of running an event. They messed it up last year, blamed everyone else, stole the event from Lemmer, blamed him, made promises it will be perfect this year and the EXACT same problem exists.

Sorry ASG you are a joke and its time you take control of your mess ups.

Sorry to hear hey

If I'm gonna commit to a multi-stage event with many mountain tops in the Boland heat and wind, endure many hours suffering in the saddle whilst training and finally put a number on my back, the result sheet REALLY matters for me and the team.

It is unbelievable.

Ek verstaan nor.

I haven't seen any accountability and responsibility statement yet from the race organisers.

imho - for organiser there are too many internal competitions in the event. keep it simple. have a GC competition for each age category but what i see is in addition to the aforementioned is kom, sprint , team competition , solo , amateur. get that right and then expand yearly as the event builds it reputation.

Hi Lancesball,

Can't talk for the timing company as I don't know them, but all timing issues I have heard about (especially in the 30+ Cat) was handled & sorted swiftly.

Yes there was timing issues & yes it must be frustrating for some but was the tour as a package not awesome? Lets focus on all the positive stuff (race village, awesome routes, all the gifts, great marshalling, spectacular racing (especially in the 30+ Cat, but I'm sure in all categories).

Lets also not forget about the other direct advantages of this event like short term job creation, advantages for local tourism & the increase in local business that the tour enhanced.

Give the timing company a day or two to get the timing sorted! I'm sure they will get it right!!!

Great week on the bike in the Amateur Team Competion!

Team time trial one of the highlights of the week and fantastic how some of the guys in my team I did not know well before the Tour became great mates after one week on the bike...

Yes,the timing was an issue. But dont regret doing the Tour and will definitely be back next year.

Great value for money considering all the goodies and all the people/marshalls involved to ensure routes were safe and marked.

I agree with a lot of what you have said above, don't get me wrong - same as last year - but when ASG did what they did last year overall, blamed everyone else and then promised it wasn't them and have fixed that issue only to have the exact same single problem is not going to be over looked by a pair of sunglasses and a stale garlic roll.

Sorry but this doesn't fly with me or anyone else I have spoken to especially when a guy who was almost 20th on GC over 20min down at end of day 4 then lands up in the top 10 overall on GC after riding 3min slower than top 9 guys on the final stage results is a serious serious mess up.

I personally know a private funder who paid 3 amateur teams entries, 4 solo amateur riders and 2 30+ entry costs  - thats a lot of money - only to have no idea over the whole 5 days how anyone is actually doing. He said he will never support the event again unfortunately.

By accepting this total mess makes it acceptable by ASG which it shouldn't be in any respect.

As frustrated as I am about the timing and trust me I have been on ASGs case, almost hourly. I don't agree with the statement that they "stole" the event from Lemmer. That is a different conversation.

Did you ride the event?

I took 10 people to do the event.

Flights, accommodation, entries, kits ect ect has cost me well over R100k, so you can imagine how pissed off we are.

Agreed, nothing was 'stolen' from Lemmer. Latter never owned anything like that in the first place. And the federation simply afforded two other events the opportunity to cater for licensed riders in the week prior to the Amateur World Champs. We had a great time, and we hope all the riders at the other events too?

Lemmer junior.

  • We had nigh 50 riders at the Tour de Boland. (80 entered / paid, from an initial interested crowd of some 200).
  • 40 finished the whole ride, levels ranged considerably.
  • 20 people physically polled on the last evening signed up for next year, and committed to bringing their friends.
  • We simply used the opportunity to 'own' our own business, that will specialise in on-road cyclo-tourism in the Boland region.
  • Very grateful for the opportunity.

Yes I did ride the event, same as last year and many previous versions of the Original TDB dating back to 2008 if memory serves me correct.

To add my two cents here ladies and gents (representing a common opinion with our fellow riders this year in the SV and VB categories), with road cycling on a precarious downward path these last two or so years in the WC, we are very privileged to have the opportunity to be able to race in this format and with the backing of world leading brands that can host and put together an incredible experience for all of us... we'll keep counting our precious lucky stars - looking forward to 2017!!!

I raced in the 40+ category and really enjoyed the opportunity to do a multi-day tour.  Except for the timing, it was well organised and I can definitely recommend it.  I will be back for sure.

Unfortunately the timing is a major issue that seems to overshadow many of the positives.  Hopefully it will be sorted next year.  This is an event that contributes significantly to our sport and I want to thank the organisers and sponsors for a great event.

I heard the goodie box, not bag, really rocked.

Another positive

I really enjoyed the event and racing with Team FRIB. We had some pretty awful luck with mechanicals, illness and especially with Edgar crashing out on Stage 3. We got better towards the end and finished with the stage win we had been looking for (Jules you legend).

The vibe in the amateur team bunch was great and there were no silly crashes that I saw.

Goody bag was worth a lot more than the entry fee I reckon - impressive!

All those positives BUT the timing was pathetic. I will not return next year if Great-Time does, that is for sure.
