A nostalgic look at Faerie Garden..

Oh wow, you have a pic of this spot!

Don't laugh but there were two areas in Tokai where I measured the narrowest part of all the trails. This was number one and the other was on Boulders but eventually lost the when it rained and riders rode around the pooled water. This spot on the root just behind your bike didn't grow at all during the year and you can see why. The trail routed (pun) naturally towards the easiest way through..

The mind wanders when on the bike, I know..

I have quite a few shots of Boulders. Where did you have your "incident"? Perhaps I have a shot of the area.

ha ha, start posting! Was after crossing the DH, either just before the boulder or just after on the turn.

Actually, if you have a shot of the boulders, that would good to see again. It is going to look so different when we go back.. !!

This is it for today. I'll check at home for others on my external HD. Hope these bring back memories. I learned to take as many shots as I can. The world changes too quickly...

I loved climbing boulders. So much more fun than slogging up in the jeeptrack sun. There was alot of kakpraat going up there too. I remember stopping my bike on a few occasions just to laugh. Good times

same... and that one rocky climb - you HAD to get the right line, or you were toast. Also had to gun it, like the silvermine road used to be.

Loved that trail, and I'd started mapping "enduro" sections for my own race against myself and riding buddies....

Sniff...

Oh man you hitting home here. I remember those sections. Was pretty chuffed with myself timing them too. Because I am THE worst climber. But it was because of boulders that technical ascents grew on me. I actually began to enjoy them. From loving the downhill only to loving the entire enduro thing as a whole. That's when the dropper post love started too. Going up and down between there and the DH lines.

Dare I say that I started loving the climbs just because of boulders.

My downhill bike just gathered dust. sniff sniff indeed

my 3 most challenging and yet rewarding sections in the climb to the top:

1: 3rd last corner on the BlueGums divert near Vasbyt - that rocky, rooty 90 degree corner with a stump and fallen log in the middle of the corner. Got it eventually

2: That section described above - not challenging per se, but you had to hit it right and it felt great when you did

3: Last corner on Boulders. That rooty section from hell. Eventually managed to find the right speed and approach to it and clear it properly...
