Giant trance 2 chain stuck between crank and chain guard

Yesterday my chain came of a few times during a race. The bike has done around 300 km and the 1st setting the gears service is due.

My question

In this case it slipped off my small crank ring and fell between the crank and the chain guard at the inside, i struggled my bum off to get it unlogged. Is there a easy way? It was just lodged there and had the yank it out. Obviously you need to disengage the derailer clutch to loosen chain, but then the cha n guard is still in the way?

It happened 3 or 4 times each time costing me lots of time, each time i fiddle with the derailed cable turn a bit, toward the end it seemed better.m

There are limit screws on the FD to prevent the chain going too high or low. The cable adjuster at the shifter is not the right way to fix this issue

Think he was suggesting not letting it get there in the first place. Correct limit and should never drop.

To get the stuck chain out my way would be to loosen or remove the left hand crank then slide out the crank shaft from the BB until the chain is released. This would be a very easy trailside fix with my XT Shimano cranks but other systems may need tools that you dont normally carry to release the crank.

If the bike is only 300km old then yeah....cables have probably settled a bit but if the derailleur limit screws were properly set by the factory/seller then this would never have happened.

Compress the shock to get the chain out easier, remember you were sitting on the bike when the chain came off, therefore the shock was compressed.
