Patchelicious Posted April 13, 2015 Share Hi, Time has come to replace the shoes. I currently use the Spez Expert. Carbon sole with one velcro and single boa.http://www.shorter-rochford.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Specialized-expert-road.png Has anybody tried those new lace up Giro's? are they comfortable, do the laces not loosen/stretch during the ride? http://rouleur.cc/sites/default/files/Giro_Easton_Rouleur_02.jpg Or would it just be better to stick to what I have and go Spez again the S-Works shoes seems to get good reviews? Then again what about Sidi Carbon Wire maybe?http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/2013-Specialized-S-Works-road-shoe-details05.jpg http://www.bikewagonmedia.com/media/img/wagon/168/wire-vent-carbon-white-red.jpg All input will be greatly appreciated. Madlight Posted April 13, 2015 Share I have the SIDI's and love them to bits - been a SIDI man for years as they fit my wide foot perfectly. BUT, if Spez works for you stick to Spez as they are awesome shoes and you know they will work for you.
Cat2forLife Posted April 13, 2015 Share I ride with the Giro Factor. They're nice and light, have EC90 soles. Was looking at the Empire, but those laces look dodgey.. If it makes you feel any better, all the pro's are sticking to buckles and velcro Oh and those twisty stuff. They're pretty cool as well. I have narrow-ish feet, and these shoes are extremely comfy. If you have wider feet though, I'd stay away. http://media.nashbar.com/images/nashbar/products/1500/YS-GFR-WH-ANGLE.jpg
Spinnekop Posted April 13, 2015 Share I bought those new Spez shoes. Having had Sidis all my life almost. I have around 5000km on them now I guess. Still looking brand new. The wires are holding up at this point. The only think I can flaw them on are that when it gets wet, the front end tends to make a funny dip in. Rubs agains my big toe. Saw 2 other pairs with similar "dents" in them. Love the shoes and will buy myself another pair if I get the chance.

Er... how can you start a serious discussion about pro level road shoes without mentioning the new Shimano R321s? Degenkolb wore them yesterday at Paris-Roubaix ;-)
Spinnekop Posted April 13, 2015 Share The buckle on those Spez is VERY good. Micro adjustment is stunning. I have a looooonnnggg look at the new Shimano shoes. The only reason that is holding me back besides the obviouse ($$$) is that it's a SHIMANO shoes. But very very nice. Well made. Well thought out. Light. Comfy. Cylon Posted April 13, 2015 Share Snap Cylon. Those are the ones I am talking about. Very nice. I have just bought a pair and I absolutely love them, especially after I had them heat molded. I'm curious as to why you didn't buy them because they are made by "Shimano"? They make some of the best products in the world in my opinion and apparently their top of the range MTB shoes (XC90) were extremely popular at the Cape Epic... I know how to mechanic a bike. And I know it well. And the Shimano agents told me the STI lever broke because I did not route the cable correctly. And did not want to warranty it. I take full responsibility for any of my wrong doing at any time. But that cable was routed just fine and it worked for 3 months. So they did not want to warranty the part. So it has been 12 year ago. 5 groupsets bought later and they still don't make money out of me. So it is just a personal thing.

venom1 Posted April 13, 2015 Share What works for 1 doesn't always work for the next. Shoes are something very specific. That all depends on your type of foot you have. There are great reviews on the Sworks shoe but for somebody like myself that has a high arch and wide foot it doesn't work for me. After testing a bunch of shoes the Fizik R1 was the most comfortable. Go to your LBS and go and try a few pairs of shoes on. If the Specialized works for you i would even recommend sticking to it. I have tried this, but no shop sells all or even 2 of these options. So it turns into a drive to one shop try on a pair, then try and remember what it felt like when you get to the next shop and try on the next pair scenario. One day I think I went between Solomans (who had Sidis in stock) and Concept Cyclery for the S-Work about 3 time Sounds like I should probably stick to the Specialized shoes since they work for me. Thanks guys! ps: I'm saving this thread for the next box that says I bought them only because of the brand
