Cav' Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Looking at joining a club mainly to try and excel as much as possible on the road (Mtb I'm sorted with my current crew who is pretty anti-road) Both look pretty decent tbh.. I live 8.8km from Bruce's and 9.5km from where Velo meet so location wise I'm not too worried. That being said, out of your personal experience which club would you recommend and what are the Pros and Cons of each club? How is their club rides? (during the week and weekends)Do they all travel together to races if need be? I'm tired of riding road races solo, would like to:1. Improve my riding and2. Feel part of a team in a sense Added a poll for good measure CheersCav'
swiss Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 When I still stayed in Pta, I was a member of Velo. If you want to improve, definitely the right club, you will learn a lot and definitely improve!
Cheese Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Hi, Your question has a few points to it. I have been part of brilliant strong club in Bloemfontein . Cycleworld, they have strong riders and weaker riders that are looked after and have rides 5 days a week. I started with Velo due to location and was told by a few people that these guys go hard .So your one point you will get good training and develop a few ex pros training in the group. Unfortunately they do week rides a bit late for me, only 05:30 and get back after 07:00 so can not join them but one of these session is very hard with the other not to hard/easy. Saturday you get to go on longer rides and the group tend to play around(atack each other a bit the longer it gets) However most of the fast guys do not take part in races in club kit. So as for feeling part of team I am not sure, maybe just because I miss the weekday rides. VA there is quite a few that race in Bestmed colours , a few in VB to and the other VB guys ride in Bianchi clothes. Must say I would also like to join the Bestmed guys and maybe I should just go up to them and ask what I need to do to joint their team? That is from a newbie in Velo.
Spinnekop Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I regularly ride with Velo. Saturdays mostly.Tuesdays are the hard days. But like Cheese says.....too late back at around 7/7:30 Did a few Bruce rides back in the day and they tend to stick to one route ALL the time which I grew tired off.Velo's rides are a bit harder as well so you feel you get a better training session in while chatting away in the group. As for the Bestmed boys. They have a "sponsored" side and a social side. Obviously the sponsored side is getting picked but the social side I suppose you can just join. Don't know the details though. See you most likely tomorrow at Velo if it doesn't rain? (Fat melts in rain and my kid loves me to much for me to just dissolve like that. )
Cav' Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Looks like it will be Velo then, most of my current rides are out to Boschkop / Bronkhorstspruit / Delmas anyways. @Spinnekop, training for Sani now up until mid May so riding with my mtb boys most weekends but come 16 May its Road all the way up until the 94.7 (with the exception of W2W)
Cheese Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Also doing MTB for Magalies Monster until 23 May.PM me when you training , Maybe I can join you.
Cav' Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Also doing MTB for Magalies Monster until 23 May.PM me when you training , Maybe I can join you. Will do, This coming Saturday we'll probably ride out to Buffelsdrift mtb park (do the red route) and back to Pta east. (+/-100km) Sunday - Groenkloof and Klapperkop and back
Sharkie 2 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I have been a member of Velo in the past and enjoyed it a lot. Good bunch of guys together. Tuesdays are the hard days, seriously hard for 50km or so on the route and back. Thursday are a bit more chilled. Routes in the week are basically always the same the might change the route alternating between Boschkop and Lynnwood but this seldom happens. Weekends and public holidays get mixed up. Select is also nice, Saturday rides are always the same loops and Sundays they mix it up. In the week they have two rides as well, don't know how hard they are though or the times. Both clubs have awesome members.

(but usually we'll meet at the fountains circle at 07:00 to give you an idea)
